FLORENCE

May 18 - Day fourteen in Italy, we left Rome by train to head to Florence. First day in Florence, we took a bus to the San Miniato al Monte to sketch the facade of the church. Then we walked to the Santa Maria Novella to also sketch the facade of the church. After sketching both facades, we did a comparative study of the two as they were designed in very similar ways by the architect.

May 19 - Fifteenth day, second day in Florence, we visited the Ufizzi Museum and saw many famous paintings and sculptures. After the museum and lunch, we did a walking tour of Florence and listened to the history behind the City.

May 20 - Day fourteen, third day in Florence, we walked to the Palazzo Pitti to visit the museum and the Boboli Garden that was part of the palazzo. After visiting the museum, we were free for the rest of the day and later that night met up with some friends to have dinner.

May 21 - Seventeenth day in Italy was another free day, so a small group of us took a train to Pisa to see the Leaning Tower of Pisa. We were able to explore Pisa and climb the tower. After a quick trip to Pisa, we took a train back to Florence to get ready for an Italian Play at a theater.

May 22 - Day eighteen, fifth day in Florence, we traveled to the Duomo for a full day of exploring. We climbed the dome and the bell tower. We also went inside the church and the baptistry. After exploring the duomo for a while, we sat down at a cafe to sketch the exterior.

May 23 - Day nineteen, day six in Florence, was another free day which was used for relaxing and laundry.

May 24 - Twentieth day in Italy, seventh day in Florence, we took a bus to Certosa di Firenze which was a historic Monastery of Florence. We took a tour while being there and learned about the monks that would live and worship at this place. After the tour we sat down and sketched.

May 25 - Twenty-first day, eighth day in Florence, we walked to two palazzos that contained museums inside. After exploring the museums we sat down to sketch both. After visiting the palazzos we were free for the afternoon.

May 26 - Day twenty-two, day nine in Florence, we walked to San Lorenzo where we explored and sketched the interior. For the afternoon, we walked to Santa Croce to sketch the exterior.

May 27 - Day twenty-third, tenth day in Florence, we went and visited the main opera house of Florence, Nuovo Teatro dell 'Opera. While we were there we were given a tour of the theater and after we were dismissed to sketch and then for a free afernoon.

May 28 - Twenty-fourth day in Italy was another free day. A small group of us took a train to Modena and Maranello to visit the two Ferrari Museums. We explored both museums and were able to see the history and development of the Ferrari car and brand.

May 29 - Twenty-fifth day, day twelve in Florence. We went and visited the church of Orsanmichelle to do a comparative study on the exterior facade. After that we went to Palazzo Medici to tour and sketch before lunch. After lunch we were free for the rest of the day.

May 30 - Twenty-sixth day in Italy the group took a day trip to Siena where we got a tour of the city. After the city tour we visited the Duomo of Siena. In the afternoon we spent some time in the Piazza il Camp to sketch. After spending the day there we took a bus back to Florence.

May 31 - Day twenty-seven, fourteenth day in Florence was a free day. Spent the day relaxing and sketching.

June 1 - Day twenty-eight, last day in Florence, we walked to Santo Spirito to sketch the exterior and interior. While inside, the choir performed as mass was about to take place. After visiting we had lunch and had a free afternoon.
